How do we know if kids belong with the bike bus at school dismissal?
Every child who rides with Bike Bus Edmonton receives a helmet sticker as a visible sign of registration and safety. These stickers are only issued to riders whose parents or guardians have completed the registration process and formally agreed to Bike Bus Edmonton’s policies—including school pick-up procedures and conduct expectations.
This system helps ensure that school staff and supervision teams can easily identify registered riders, supporting coordination and safety during arrival and dismissal times.
For more details, please refer to the School Coordination section in our Ride Guide.
What happens if a ride is cancelled?
Bike Bus Edmonton is committed to providing reliable rides and will only cancel a ride when safety conditions cannot be met. In the event of a cancellation, parents are notified directly through our official communication channels. These messages are treated as critical alerts and are sent out in a timely manner to support families in coordinating alternative travel arrangements from school.
For more details, please refer to the Ride Guide, specifically the sections on Weather and Ride Condition Limitations and Communication.
How can concerns about liability be addressed?
Bike Bus Edmonton operates with the support of an active legal counsel to help manage risk and liability, particularly around setting clear expectations for participating families. It’s important to emphasize that Bike Bus Edmonton is a community-led initiative—not a school program—and differs from services like the yellow school bus.
To ensure transparency and shared understanding, all participants are informed of these distinctions and formally acknowledge them through our Assumption of Risks, Conduct Expectations, Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, and Indemnity Agreement.
For more details, please refer to the Ride Guide, especially the sections titled Operates Differently From Schools and Shared Responsibility.
What is the ride schedule?
Rides are timed to arrive during the drop off window, and leave shortly after dismissal for the school it serves. Find detailed information about each route in our Ride Guide at Routes and Schedules.
ARe Bike Bus Programs in partnership with schools or the school board?
Bike Bus Edmonton works closely with schools to ensure our operations align with their routines, safety protocols, and logistical needs. However, it’s important to clarify that Bike Bus Edmonton is not a school program, and we do not have formal partnerships with any school or school board.
Our initiative is community-led and operates independently. While we coordinate with school administrators to support smooth integration, we do not assume care, custody, or control of children during rides. Participation is voluntary, and parents/guardians remain responsible for their children at all times
For more details, please refer to the Ride Guide, especially the sections titled Operates Differently From Schools and School Coordination.
